The Jacks lost the first game 3–2 and won the second with a score of 12-6. (Photo by Evan Jon Paniagua) As many Major League Baseball fans are excited for their favorite teams to begin their seasons, the NAU baseball team — 5-4 South Pacific South Conference (SPSC), 10-10 overall — has its season far underway. NAU is above .500 in their conference with aspirations to make it to regionals. The Jacks have been making an effort to improve the team since the start of the season with arm trouble affecting some of the ace pitchers. The season for the SPSC began Jan 25. NAU was able to hold the second-place spot in the conference with a 4-2 record but has since fallen a few spots with their current record of 5-4 in the conference. Starting pitchers for the Jacks are producing for the team, but offensively, leaving men on base has been the downfall to close games. Junior pitcher Dan “Big Country” Riggs has three wins this season with 26 innings pitched and 28 strikeouts.
