Description |
May Hicks Curtis Hill, a 1905 graduate of Northern Arizona Normal School, made a flag in Flagstaff around August 7, 1911 at the request of her then-fiance Frank C. Curtis, who served with Captain Harris on the Arizona National Guard rifle team. According to May, Frank provided a sketch of the flag from Captain Harris. May sent the completed flag to Frank, stationed at Camp Brodie, to take to Ohio. May's flag consists of a blue ground, gold star, and thirteen red-and-white stripes. This appears to be the earliest extant version of the flag, now held at the Arizona State Capitol Museum. |
