Description	A handwritten river journal by Tad Nichols, describing the river trips taken down the Colorado River in September and October of 1956 and 1957. Mentioned are the geological features, petroglyphs, water conditions, passengers and people met along the river. BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: Tad Nichols graduated from the University of Arizona with degrees in geology and anthropology. While in Tucson, he also studied photography; later he continued these studies with Ansel Adams and Brett Weston. He often worked as a scientific photographer. In June, 1950, Nichols ran the San Juan and Colorado rivers through Glen Canyon, serving as a cameraman for a Los Angeles television producer. Nichols continued to explore Glen Canyon and made thirty trips through Glen Canyon between 1950-1963. Nichols' photographs have been published in books and periodicals, including Natural history, U.S. camera, Arizona highways and National geographic.
