ABOARD THE USS AUGUSTA ENROUTE TO ANTWERP The President is greeted by units of the British fleet upon his arrival in Europe. As a British destroyer passes in salute, its crew standing at attention topside, the President along with Secretary of State Byrnes (right) acknowledges the greeting with spontaneous waves. The crew rated their Commander-in-chief a 'Four-Oh' sailor. For his trip to the Big Three meeting with Churchill and Stalin, President Truman chose an 'old salt' of many historic occasions, the USS Augusta.
