The middle part of the Ash Fork grade of Route 66 looking west, June 1992. Probably 1930s-1950s vintage Route 66. The Ash Fork grade was historically a problematic alignment for I-40, Route 66, and their predecessor roads. The steepness of the grade, and narrow nature of the canyon subjected the roads to slippage and washouts.
