Description |
BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY: From 1927 to 1929, Clyde Kluckhohn led three expeditions to the area called Kaiparowits Plateau (also known as Wild Horse Mesa) on the Navajo Nation. It is claimed that prior to these trips no Anglo person had ever ventured this deep into the reservation. Kluckhohn later wrote Beyond the Rainbow, which describes these expeditions. James J. Hanks was a member of the expeditions and acted as the primary photographer for the expeditions. The group included Lauri Sharp, Bill Gernon, and Nel Hagen. All were undergraduates at the University of Wisconsin at the time of the trips. |
