Description |
BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY: On May 27, 1958, Tad flew from Flagstaff to Page, where he met fellow photographers Bill Sears and Josef Muench, and a woman named Thelma Riegel. They then headed for Kane Creek and met with boatmen Earl Johnson and Dick Grimm, as well as Dick's wife and daughter. About noon, the group shoved off on the Colorado River, which was running at an estimated 90,000 CFS. This meant the water was 'too high and swift' to explore some of the side canyons. The next day, they all hiked to Rainbow Bridge. Tad made notes in his journal that 'from May '57 to '58, 700 people at bridge.' The next three days were spent hiking, swimming, and taking photographs. On May 31st, they were back 'down to Kane - rough landing.' |
