Tomboy Mine. This famous old gold mine in the San Juan Mtns. above Telluride in Colorado was one of the first located there. Among those closed in 1928 it was reopened in 1936 and is being worked on a lower level by the Telluride Mine Co. Other minerals as well as gold are taken from the ore. In the days of its activity all materials had to come up from Telluride (8500 ft.) to the 11,000 ft. level of the mine by mule teams. Ore went down the same way. [Caption by Josef Muench]
