1927
and
1928
,
Clyde
Kluckhohn
led
two
expeditions
to the
area
around
Wild
Horse
Mesa
on the
Navajo
Indian
Reservation
. He
later
wrote
Beyond
the
Rainbow
,
which
describes
these
expeditions
.
James
J
.
Hanks
was a
member
of
both
expeditions
and
acted
as the
primary
photographer
for the
expeditions
. The
group
included
Lauri
Sharp
,
Bill
Gernon
, and
Nel
Hagen
.
All
were
undergraduates
at the
University
of
Wisconsin
at the
time
of the
trips
.
