Boundary Cone of the Black Mountains, a few miles south of Oatman on old U.S. Highway 66. Standing somewhat aloof, this rhyolitic volcanic rock was used as landmark from which government surveys of northern Arizona were started. Jumping Cholla (Opuntia bigelovii) in the foreground points up the desert. [Caption given by Josef Muench]
