Sunset Crater Nat'l Monument, Ariz. This volcanic cinder cone, so named for its oxidized rim colors, is the only accurately dated prehistoric eruption which occured in 1064 A.D. Part of the greater San Francisco volcanic field, its lower slopes and surrounding lava flows are covered with Ponderosa pines. [Caption by Josef Muench]
