Listed in Rittenhouse's Guide Book to Highway 66 (1946), Rocky's dates from the late 1930s. The site once included a gas station, cabins, wrecker service and a cafe. Rocky's was essentially put out of business in 1958 by the widening of Route 66 and the coming of I-40. Significantly, the family sued (State vs. MacDonald, 1960) and was awarded damages by the Arizona Supreme Court for the loss of business caused by loss of access to the highway. The generator shed from Airway Beacon #51 resides on this site.
